Fifth about The Seventh

Into the Woods (2014)

Into the WoodsInto the Woods: Rob Marshall’s film commits a cardinal sin for a musical: its songs are unmemorable, its musical numbers unimaginative. The story is an interesting mash-up, alternatively fun and dark; it is, however, badly paced and drags towards the end. The large, interesting cast is very sporting, and present themselves with good singing voices, weak songs notwithstanding; Emily Blunt and James Corden are the ones that stand out the most. Costume design (in particular) and art direction are solid, supported by Dion Beebe’s elegant lensing.
