The Great Beauty: Paolo Sorrentino created a film that is hard to grasp in full (to be clear, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that) but easy to dive into and appreciate. The journey through the reality, dreams, hallucinations and memories of a man will only be as interesting as the character behind them, and Toni Servillo brought to life a fascinating one, oozing charm and bite. Beautifully done, with great music and incredible camera work by Luca Bigazzi; the camera is always on the move, hunting for striking faces and even more striking pieces of Rome (which lends itself beautifully to the oneiric tone of the film).
