Fifth about The Seventh

Ride the Pink Horse

Ride the Pink HorseRide the Pink Horse: Robert Montgomery’s intriguing noir follows a somewhat beaten track story-wise, but does so in an unusual (but beautifully rendered) setting and with a riveting gallery of characters (some typical, some anything but). Ben Hecht and Charles Lederer’s screenplay smartly creates a protagonist that is a mix of sympathy and unpleasantness, but surrounds him with likable figures. Montgomery is the star, and adequate, but it’s Thomas Gomez and Wanda Hendrix both steal the show in their supporting roles. Russell Metty’s camerawork is a marvel; his framing makes great use of the environment to create quite a few beautiful shots.
