12 Minutes: Filmmaking is deceptively time-consuming. Coming out with a story, writing a working script, shooting, editing, it all takes much more time than it looks. A good friend of mine recently produced this short for the 48 Hour Film Project. The end result is a very fun short, all the more impressive because of the restraints. Enjoy!

True Blood – Season 5: violent and profane as a series about vampires should be, given the characters. Of course, by now the visual tone is a given as the violence rarely goes astray from what was established in previous seasons. Frankenweenie: the inspiration of this story is obvious, and it is, for the most part, a nice little re-imagining of the story. Prometheus: while the questions posed here are certainly provocative, the answers provided are not as interesting; nevertheless, they still raise this film above the generic space horror. Everything looks absolutely fantastic, and the cast, for the most part, sells everything well. The one exception is Noomi Rapace, which is a big issue, as she is the one of most to sell.

Let the Right One In: this film contains a series of quiet, eerie, beautifully constructed shots; it is an example of visual efficacy and efficiency. It serves, however, a story that, despite its relative originality, is not all that interesting. (Full disclosure: not a fan of vampire movies.)

Intruders: the one thing that makes this conventional thriller any different is how pretentious it is. From obvious music cues to camera angles, it’s all been used in better movies many times. Not to mention the weak special effects.
