Man on a Ledge: preposterous from beginning to end, this film embraces its B-movieness with gusto, in all major regards: screenplay (not much makes sense), acting (everybody is in sledgehammer mode). Some scenes are there for no reason at all.

Haywire: the most rewarding aspect is how straightforwards this film is. There’s no pretending it’s anything else: it’s an action movie centered in the fighting abilities of Gina Carano. She can throw a mean punch and kick, but not smile or read lines.

Contraband: a standard actioner. There is not character in sight at all, only cardboard models running around and doing criminal deeds. Nevertheless, it’s fun enough if you happen to forget your brain somewhere.

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol: while the plot gets a bit too 007-ish, it still retains enough of the spirit of the original material to be pleasurable. It may, in fact, have the set piece that mostly resembles the old TV series. The light tongue-in-cheek tone is also welcome.

Star Wars: still one of the ultimate adventure films made. The main strengths here are the original, rich setting and, mostly, the naivete and hopefullness of the story. The story is simple because it needs to be universal (or universally grasped). Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith: while it’s in closer in the general tone to the original trilogy, the true reason for it being generally appreciated is because the story is told and all loose ends are (a bit too conveniently) wrapped.
