Super 8: another view doesn’t do much to change the previous experience. Only one thing that dawned on me: just like the films it tries to emulate, all the FX-heavy scenes happen at night. Shutter Island: the second view doesn’t push this past a decently good movie category, despite the fact that the credentials are first notch. It certainly is too smart a story for its own good, one that may not work all that well after all. Can’t say (and don’t care) why people say they “saw it coming”, even knowing it already. Toy Story 3: whatever I said before stands. Still the best movie of 2010, upon a review. It hits the same notes, packs the same emotional punch and the characters remain as rich as they felt the first time. True Grit: a welcome review. While I felt the pace a bit in the middle, the early parts, showcasing Mattie Ross’ character, felt stronger. And to fall in love once more with the images of Roger Deakins is always a welcome feeling. Can I steal 4000 member ballots and give this genius an Oscar already? The Town: a revisit confirmed what I thought before. A solid entertainment, that probably got even a bit better the second time. Inception: a review didn’t completely put away my issues with the movie (a few, maybe 2 or 3 lines, could be cut from Ellen Page’s character). Some of the details of the proceedings make even less sense to me now; by the other hand, the emotional punch the movie carries is even greater upon the second view.
