Fifth about The Seventh

The Richest Woman in the World (La Femme la Plus Riche du Monde)

The Richest Woman in the World: Thierry Klifas drama, inspired by a true story, follows (as the title states) a rich woman as she falls into the web of a young artist, a con man who convinces her to spend a fortune on him and his projects. Acting is solid, but the main issue here is that every character is somewhat unlikable, and most not in an interesting way; as such, the story feels unengaging, and the pace drags. Isabelle Huppert plays the coldly imperious, generally bored heiress quite well, and Laurent Lafitte plays the boisterous, manipulative bon vivant, also beautifully. Marina Foïs, as the protagonist’s daughter, and Raphaël Personnaz, as her loyal butler, are less interesting characters and performances. Aesthetically, the film is competent but unremarkable, with the costume design, by Jürgen Doering and Laure Villemer, being its best aspect.
