Fifth about The Seventh

Grace (La Grazia – 2025)

Grace: Paolo Sorrentino’s ponderous drama revolves around an Italian president as he closes his tenure, without much to do besides ponder on a few pending decisions and reminisce about his late wife. The film, sweet as it may be, is about one’s legacy and mortality. The protagonist, a self-assumed bore, slow-moving and indecisive despite his high intelligence, is a great playground for Toni Servillo’s subtle, engaging acting. Anna Ferzetti, as his daughter, gives a fine performance. Aesthetically, the film is a bit more conservative than Sorrentino’s usual oeuvre, but cinematographer Daria D’Antonio’s work is, nevertheless, elegant and visually beautiful. Both the work of production designer Ludovica Ferrario and costume designer Carlo Poggioli are very good.
