Fifth about The Seventh

Enzo

Enzo: Robin Campillo’s delicate drama, a film he shot after the death of his frequent collaborator Laurent Cantet, follows a 16-year-old boy who, as teenagers are wont to do, is a bit lost. He may be a bit lazy and apathetic, but he is not wrong about his desire to leave behind something that lasts; his family respects his choice to be an apprentice mason, even if they don’t like it. Eloy Pohu plays the protagonist well, but as apathy is his major trait, it’s not an engaging performance. Élodie Bouchez and Pierfrancesco Favino play his loving, understanding parents in a pair of understated, efficient performances. Maksym Slivinskyi plays one of his co-workers, but his acting is subpar and unconvincing. Cinematographer Jeanne Lapoirie captures the action in solar Marseille beautifully. Campillo himself edits the film, giving it a nice pace.
