São Paulo Incorporated: Luiz Sérgio Person’s challenging drama follows a young man, first seen walking out on his wife, and then back to see his trajectory in further detail. Using a non-linear narrative, doubling as social commentary, and sporting a deeply unsympathetic protagonist makes this more interesting, even if a harder sit. Walmor Chagas plays the protagonist, a perpetually distressed and irritated man with some ambition but unequipped to handle the pressure of his own goals, in an efficient performance. Eva Wilma plays his suffering wife; Darlene Glória and Ana Esmeralda play two other women he gets involved with during the years. The city of São Paulo is essentially another character, in all its chaotic and stressful glory. Cinematographer Ricardo Aronovich captures it all with dynamic camera work. The music, composed by Cláudio Petráglia, is rather distinctive.
