Fifth about The Seventh

Arco

Arco: Ugo Bienvenu’s lovely animated film tells the story of a young boy from the far future, a time when Earth is a very different place, who travels in time to his past and meets a girl of about his age. Their adventures to send him back home make up the bulk of the film and are very touching, but since her world is in a future where climate change brings semi-catastrophic events into daily life, the film also serves as a gentle cautionary tale. The protagonists, two young kids with a healthy curiosity and sense of adventure, are winning, and quite well-defended by Margot Ringard Oldra (as the girl) and Oscar Tresanini (as the boy). The director Bienvenu plays a babysitter robot rather effectively, with genuine love for his charges; Vincent Macaigne, Louis Garrel, and William Lebghil play a trio of entertaining antagonists, brothers who are looking for the time-travelling hero. The animation is visually incredible, rather different from what is commonly seen nowadays, with rich and vivid colours, a beautifully designed world, and distinctive characters.
