100 Meters: IWAISAWA Kenji’s animation follows a group of high schoolers, all, in one way or another, interested in running the 100-meter race. The film follows their preparation, their struggles, their competition, their growth, and, more interestingly, their mindsets of how and why they feel the need to run the race. The characters are appealing, but all are set in their ways, not having much of an arc during the film. The voice acting is effective, with MATSUZAKA Toori giving a warmer performance and SOMETANI Shoota, a colder one, both convincing as their characters. The supporting characters are also well defended by their voice actors. The film is visually quite good: the environments have a realistic look to them, the characters are all well-designed and distinct, and the animation gives a great sense of dynamism to the action.
