Fifth about The Seventh

Love Me Tender (2025)

Love Me Tender: Anna Cazenave Cambet’s film tells the story of a woman, separated from her husband, who gets into a legal battle for the custody of their 8-year-old son when she comes out as a lesbian. It is a touching and enraging story, but the film comes accross as a bit slow and repetitive, losing its power. What does not lose its power at any moment, in any case, is Vicky Krieps’ performance as the protagonist, an intelligent and undeniably loving mother who gets the short end of the stick for being a non-conforming woman. Antoine Reinartz is infuriating as the insecure ex-husband. Viggo Ferreira-Redier plays their son convincingly. Aesthetically, the film is efficient and unremarkable; director of photography Kristy Baboul captures the action and the moments of intimacy with elegance.
