The Piano Accident: Quentin Dupieux’s dark comedy follows an influencer made famous for videos in which she puts herself in harm’s way for clicks, as she heads to an Alpine chalet in order to recover from the title accident. The protagonist is an unapologetically hateful human being, and the film doesn’t even pretend it tries to make her likable. The film is a on-the-nose but scathing critique of social media celebrities, but not particularly enjoyable to watch. Adèle Exarchopoulos is clearly having fun playing the protagonist, making use of props (weird hair, braces) to build the character. Jérôme Commandeur is fine as her hapless personal assistant, constantly abused. Sandrine Kiberlain plays a journalist trying to score an interview, and Karim Leklou plays a fan who bumps into her. Dupieux himself edited and shot the film, which is short and to the point.
