Fifth about The Seventh

It Was Just an Accident (Yek Tasadef Sadeh / Un Simple Accident)

It Was Just an Accident: Jafar Panahi’s exceptional drama follows a growing group of people, all of them former prisoners of the Iranian regime, as they find a man who may or may not be the one who tortured them in jail. They need each other because no one has more than one piece of the puzzle. Despite its heavy premise and constant discussions about retribution, the director manages to maintain a light tone, with numerous comic interludes. The protagonists are essentially a good group of people in a very bad situation. Vahid Mobasseri plays the protagonist, a man in constant pain who acts intempestively and is at a loss afterwards.  Mariam Afshari plays a more level-headed photographer, and they are both excellent. Cinematographer Amin Jafari captures the action with a simple, efficient camera; the pace given by editor Amir Etminan is superb.
