The Incredible Snow Woman: the protagonist of Sébastien Betbeder’s drama, a female researcher-explorer, is not having the best of times. She moves back to her family’s house after issues at her job and in her relationship. She is lost, a bit abrasive, and certainly not all that pleasurable; it’s hard to understand her and connect with her, until it isn’t. The tonal shift that accompanies it makes the film more poetic and interesting, but it may come a bit too late. Blanche Gardin plays the protagonist well enough, but it’s not a memorable performance; likewise, the performances of Philippe Katerine and Bastien Bouillon, as her older and younger brothers respectively, are effective but dull. Cinematographer Pierre-Hubert Martin captures the action and wilderness elegantly. The original score, by Ensemble 0, fits the mood well; two renditions of songs by the cast are very touching, creating the emotional peaks of the experience.
