The Flock – Steampunk Version: Ducca Rios’ animation is a remake of a Brazilian adventure film, which tells the story of the aftermath of the killing of a famous bandit leader from the country’s Northeast region and his wife, both folk heroes for their opposition to rich landowners. An adult animation, the film adds (as the title suggests) a steampunk aesthetic, making most of the bandits and some of their pursuers only half-human, a fitting symbol of their bloodthirsty nature. This is a film without heroes, and there is no sugarcoating on how even the protagonist is portrayed. The story is simple but to the point. The animation features a unique visual style, and its characters are highly distinctive and well-designed; the action sequences are brutal, visceral. Very good use of music, and the voice cast is effective.
