Fifth about The Seventh

The Blue Trail (O Último Azul)

The Blue Trail: Gabriel Mascaro’s film follows a 77-year-old woman living in a near future where her government sends all the elderly to an internment camp, as a way to improve the economy; not quite ready to cease living in her own terms, she goes through several small adventures to fulfill her dreams. The reality of the protagonist may be quite unique, but her drive should be recognizable to most in this quietly magical film. She is quite well-defended by Denise Weinberg, as someone still fully able to have a productive life who is not happy to be pushed away by society, in a beautiful, quietly powerful performance. Rodrigo Santoro (playing against type as a boatman), Miriam Socarras, and Adanilo are very good as some of the people she meets. Director of photography Guillermo Garza captures the action with lively colours, making the small towns and villages near the Amazon River particularly inviting. The music, both the score composed by Memo Guerra and the many licensed songs, is quite good and instrumental in giving the place its identity.
