Visiting Hours: Patricia Mazuy’s drama follows a middle-aged housewife with an empty life, who meets when visiting her husband in prison a younger woman, also visiting her husband. The connection they form is unlikely, expected, and alas, badly developed. The whole film is low-stakes, low-wattage, and not particularly interesting in its exploration of these two wildly different women and the relationship they form. Isabelle Huppert plays the older woman, and Hafsia Herzi plays the younger; both performances are low energy, far from bad, but not at all exciting either. The film is well done, but generally indifferent, barely utilizing a location that is not commonly used.
