Cloud: KUROSAWA Kiyoshi’s cruelly ironic thriller follows a young manufacturing worker who decides to focus on his side hustle, an internet scalper, and moves to the countryside with his girlfriend. The protagonist is despicable, insensitive, and ambitious. Still, the comeuppance he finds seems a bit out of proportion, and that bit of irony, making him an unlikely hero, is fascinating. SUDA Masaki plays the protagonist, a guileful man, with a good mix of attitude and emotional emptiness about everything except his gains; FURUKAWA Kotone plays his neglected girlfriend well enough; and OKUDAIRA Daiken is almost funny as his surprisingly resourceful assistant. Cinematographer SASAKI Yasuyuki captures the action elegantly, with precise framing when required; editor TAKAHASHI Kooichi gives the film a nice pace and the final sequence, in particular, an exhilarating dynamism. The music, by composer WATANABE Takuma, fits the material quite well.
