A Swedish Love Story: Roy Andersson’s film tells a sweet, young summer love story: a 13-year-old girl meets a similarly aged boy, and the film follows the shy dance they make around each other as they fall in love, despite being surrounded by sad, cynical adults. If this works so well, it is because of how charming the two young protagonists are: Ann-Sofie Kylin plays the very cute girl and has one particularly emotional scene, which she plays quite well; Rolf Sohlman plays the ruggedly charming boy. Of the adults, Bertil Norström plays her father, an office worker who is a bit uppity. Cinematographer Jörgen Persson captures the action, magnifying the soft summer light to create beautiful, idyllic images. The original score, by composer Björn Isfält, is quite a fine fit to this romantic film.
