Fifth about The Seventh

Aïcha (2025)

Aïcha: Mehdi M. Barsaoui’s drama follows a young Tunisian woman who uses a traffic accident to escape her dead-end life, only to get involved in something worse. In both cases, almost everyone uses the fact that she is a woman against her. The story is a bit excessive, but the issue is relevant enough that it is not a major problem. The protagonist is very relatable in her desire to have a better, freer life; Fatma Sfarr defends her well, projecting her many changes of mood efficiently. Nidhal Saadi, as a policeman in charge of investigating an episode she is involved in, manages to go from brutish to sympathetic. The work of director of photography Antoine Héberlé is simple and elegant; editor Camille Toubkis gives the film a good pace, moving from plot point to plot point without excesses or waste.
