Fifth about The Seventh

The Last Journey (Den Sista Resan)

The Last Journey: Filip Hammar and Fredrik Wikingsson’s touching documentary follows the duo as they make a journey with Hammar’s father, Lars, to his beloved France. The frail ex-teacher is showing signs of depression, and Hammar believes re-visiting their old vacation spot in Côte d’Azur will do him some good. The aging of loved ones is not an easy process, and the film efficiently shows how hard (physically and mentally) it is for those who age and also (emotionally) for those who watch. Lars Hammar seems to be a good man and is a charming subject, making the film very emotional. The camerawork (by Erik Persson, Erik Vallsten, and Robin Trollin) captures nice views from the trip, and has, naturally, lots of access (sometimes to the point that some moments feel staged); editors Johan Kjellberg and Robin Wikner balance the whole thing, keeping it funny, emotional, and snappy.
