Fifth about The Seventh

LOLA

LOLA: the less one knows about the plot of Andrew Legge’s found footage science fiction film, the better, but suffice it to say that the film sticks its landing, making this an intriguing, inventive, and entertaining experience. The basics: a pair of sisters in late 1930s England invents a radio able to listen to waves from the future. Emma Appleton plays the eldest sister, an idealist genius inventor; Stefanie Martini plays the youngest, more romantic of the two; both are credible as independent, intelligent women. As a found footage film, director of photography Oona Menges uses plenty of handheld shots and unusual camera placements, making it credible; editor Colin Campbell uses historical footage to sell it further. Costume design, by Lara Campbell, and production design, by Ferdia Murphy, credibly re-create the era. The use of music, originally composed by Neil Hannon or otherwise, is quite good.
