Fifth about The Seventh

Mickey 17

Mickey 17: BONG Joon Ho’s dark comedy cum sci-fi tells the story of a man who signs for a space expedition, to serve a whole as an expendable, or someone whose bosses can be upfront in saying they don’t care if he lives or dies, since he can be re-printed on the spot. Naturally, his adventures are dark but always entertaining and optimistic. In good part, that’s due to the performances of Robert Pattinson as the hapless man (performances because the two versions of him he plays are really different, and he is quite good with both of them); also, the gonzo acting of Mark Ruffalo (clearly inspired by another red cap-loving populist leader) and Toni Collette (the first wife, so to say). Naomi Ackie, as his girlfriend, is warm and the actual heart of the film. Editor YANG Jin-mo gives the film a nice pace, coming and going in the timeline. Production designer Fiona Crombie creates a credible lived-in spaceship and cinematographer Darius Khondji captures the action with an excellent camerawork. Composer JUNG Jae-il contributes with a nice, slightly unusual for the genre, musical score.
