Fifth about The Seventh

The Moon (Deo Mun)

The Moon: KIM Yong-hwa’s competent science-fiction thriller tells the story of an astronaut stranded on a historical Korean mission to the moon after a malfunction kills his crewmates. Plenty of the action calls for a healthy dose of suspension of disbelief; what doesn’t, however, is how things would work better if politicians let the technicians work. This being a thriller, the characters are mostly one-note. DOH Kyung-soo plays the stranded astronaut with a decent projection of fear and heroism; SUL Kyung-gu plays the man who knows the project best and is tasked with saving him. The film looks good, with credible and stylish flight control centers and the interior of the space vehicle. The visual effects are solid, and all the zero-gravity sequences are believable. Cinematographer KIM Young-ho captures it cleanly and effectively; editor JEONG Ji-eun stitches all well, giving the film a good rhythm and its share of emotional moments (accentuated by composer LEE Jae-hak’s rousing musical score).
