Fifth about The Seventh

Babysitter (2022)

Babysitter: Monia Chokri’s high-energy comedy takes a hard look at casual sexism and misogyny, as it tells the story of a man who is suspended from work for forcing a kiss; at home, his wife is having a hard time with their newborn daughter. Its energy, visual flair, and the presence of a peculiar babysitter make this an unpredictable, somewhat subversive journey. Patrick Hivon plays the man going on a healing journey he doesn’t even understand with some hilarity; Steve Laplante, as his brother, is even more clueless about his need for such a process; Chokri herself plays the wife, a new mother also struggling with her new life. Nadia Tereszkiewicz plays the title character, a young peculiar girl who can set things right and is very interesting. Editor Pauline Gaillard and director of photography Josée Deshaies give the film a very particular, dynamic, and attractive look; it never gets to be tiresome, partly because of its snappy runtime.
