Fifth about The Seventh

My Sunshine (Boku no Ohisama)

My Sunshine: director OKUYAMA Hiroshi (who wears many hats, also being the writer, cinematographer, and co-editor) tells a nice story in this lovely little film. It follows a young boy, shy and a lost case with traditional sports; one afternoon, he watches a young girl practice figure skating, and soon, her coach starts to train him. What follows is almost impossibly delicate; in big part, because the film is very keen on observing the quiet interactions between the trio. Also, the performances are subdued, naturalistic, and utterly convincing. KOSHIYAMA Keitatsu plays the quiet boy who slowly flourishes; NAKANISHI Kiara plays the lovely and talented girl, and IKEMATSU Soosuke, the caring and dedicated coach. His camerawork is simple and elegant, and his images are eerily beautiful. The pace he alongside co-editor Tina Baz gives to the film is easygoing and pleasurable.
