How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies: Pat Boonnitipat’s film tells the story of a young man who, wanting some extra cash, decides to take care of his ill grandmother in hopes of inheriting her house. How their relationship evolves is the film’s core, as she is initially distant and set in her ways, while he is neglectful and careless. The result is sweet and touching. A good part of it comes from Usha Seamkhum’s performance as the grandmother, a loving woman who grew distant from her family as time went by and did what she must to survive. Putthipong Assaratanakul, as the slacker grandson with a plan, is fine, navigating effectively his change of heart. Aesthetically, the film is fine: editor Thammarat Sumethsupachok keeps the story moving along nicely, cinematographer Boonyanuch Kraithong captures it all without frills, and the use of music (both composer Jaithep Raroengjai’s original score and the pre-existing tracks) is efficient.
