A Dog’s Will 2: Flávia Lacerda and Guel Arraes’ sequel to his own film (a re-cut of a television mini-series and adaptation of Ariano Suassuna’s theater play) picks up two decades after the events of the original work. They get reunited in the city where they lived before, and for the most part, they return to their old ways. Both are small-time swindlers and play the two major political forces against each other for scraps. Selton Mello and Matheus Nachtergaele repeat their roles; the first a romantic, coward serial liar, and the second a fast-talker always with some con on the ready. The melodic dialogue is often in verse, generally very amusing, and always very well-read in a theatrical Northeastern accent. Humberto Martins and Eduardo Sterblitch play the two heavies of the film entertainingly. The film has an intentionally artificial look, as it was shot in virtual sets; on one hand, it fits the fantasy of the story, but it doesn’t look as good as it could if shot on location. It is mostly a re-hash, but an entertaining one.
