Rio 2096: A Story of Love and Fury: Luiz Bolognesi’s animation tells the story of a Native man transformed by a spirit into an immortal warrior who lives the next seven centuries fighting the forces of darkness, oppression, and greed in Brazil. The story, driven as the title says by the love for one woman and fury, is told in 4 episodes set in different centuries, past and future, all interesting and, sadly, way too short and not quite fully fleshed out. The voice acting is solid: Selton Mello plays the man, who narrates his own story, and Camila Pitanga plays his love interest through the ages; both are quietly effective. The animation has simple and effective drawings, beautifully rendered environments, and muted, dark colours; the lighting effects are very well done. The music is quite good.
