The Good Teacher: Teddy Lussi-Modeste’s tight drama tells the story of a high-school teacher who has his dedication to his students misconstrued and distorted, and as a result, he is accused of sexual harassment by one of his students. As the international title suggests, the protagonist seems to be a good teacher, so his situation is sad and enraging; the film keeps increasing the stakes and tension very effectively. François Civil plays the protagonist well, leaning early on his charms and also emoting well as the situation gets hairier. The kids are all fine in their roles, mainly Toscane Duquesne as the alleged victim and Mallory Wanecque as the class troublemaker. Aesthetically, the film delivers enough to work: the editing of Guerric Catala, the camerawork of Hichame Alaouie, and the music of Jean-Benoît Dunckel are all solid.
