Fifth about The Seventh

Yannick

Yannick: Quentin Dupieux playfully makes considerations about art, artists, the public, and entertainment in this comedy, as he tells the story of a working man who takes issue with the quality of the play he is watching. At first, he just interrupts and complains loudly, but soon he takes the whole theater hostage to stage a play he is writing on the spot. It is a preposterous notion, one that is made very palatable by the film’s snappy runtime and the acting. Raphaël Quenard plays the title character, a simple man who despite his choice for violence, manages to stay sympathetic for his everyman qualities; Blanche Gardin and Pio Marmaï play two of the actors as two prime donne, unsympathetic victims. Music is used sparingly, but Tsegué-Maryam Guèbrou’s eerily beautiful piano playing is such an interesting choice.
