Look Back: this animated drama, by OSHIYAMA Kiyotaka, tells the simple and beautiful story of a friendship, between two girls, both aspiring mangakas (or manga artists). In many ways, they are the opposite of each other: one is an outgoing and social girl, ambitious in her creative pursuits, while the other is shy to the point of being a hermit. In common, they are dedicated to drawing mangas, and as in life, they complement each other; their co-dependent relationship is layered and rich. They are played quite well by KAWAI Yuumi and YOSHIDA Mizuki, respectively. The hand-drawn animation is lovely; the character design makes the two protagonists distinctive, and the environments are detailed and appealing. The music, by the composer haruka nakamura, is eerily beautiful.
