Girlfriends and Girlfriends: Zaida Carmona’s film tells the story of a young lesbian woman, played by herself, who is dealing with a breakup as she moves from Madrid to Barcelona, and as she gets to live there, goes around a social circle where everybody seems to be past, present and/or future romantic entanglements of everyone else. The film smartly embraces the farcical side of it all. The protagonist is engaging in her insecurities and awkwardness, nicely played by Carmona; Alba Cros, as her romantic interest, is played with seriousness and charm. The rest of the performances are efficient enough. Aesthetically, the film is smart, with a snappy pace (thanks to editor Eric Monteagudo), and nicely put together, except for the sound quality, which can get somewhat bad in some dialogues.
