Fifth about The Seventh

Delfín

Delfín: Gaspar Scheuer’s drama tells the story of an eleven-year-old boy in rural Argentina, with the indomitable spirit of someone with a dream: go to a nearby town for trials to a child’s orchestra. It is a universal story; probably too much, as the film barely has any local flavor. While the story makes it easy to root for the protagonist (the kid is charming and talented, headstrong as one would expect), the acting of Valentino Catania is a bit flat. His hardworking and absent father is played a bit better by Cristian Salguero. Director of Photography Guillermo Saposnik captures the action elegantly and intimately, giving the film a solar color palette that matches the protagonist’s disposition. Music is naturally an important element, and both composer Ezequiel Menalled’s original score and the other tracks fit well with the rest of the material.
