Fifth about The Seventh

The Delinquents (Los Delincuentes)

The Delinquents: there is some fine irony in place with Rodrigo Moreno’s film: the protagonists may well be among the most square characters in a long time, bank-tellers who lead a regular and boring life. One of them indeed steals money from their employer, but that was done more out of the desire to leave an unfulfilling life behind than out of ambition. The result is certainly more ponderous and poetic than the usual heist film. Daniel Elías and Esteban Bigliardi play the two protagonists in quiet, subtle performances that are very appropriate for the story being told; Margarita Molfino plays a lively woman who becomes relevant to the story. The cinematography, by Alejo Maglio and Inés Duacastella, is pretty good: the framing is beautiful, the use of lights is naturalistic, and the resulting images of the mountainous region in Central Argentina are stunning and peaceful. The film makes pretty good use of music, with a varied and evocative selection of tracks.
