Fifth about The Seventh

Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre

Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre: Guy Ritchie’s sort-of pastiche of many major spy-thriller series is silly and entertaining enough to almost deserve to become one itself. It follows a far-from-suave hired-gun spy who leads a group that tries to thwart a billionaire gun salesman’s plan to, well, do something nasty; naturally, the story doesn’t make all that much sense. No matter, as the group of operatives is colorful and entertaining, while the main antagonist is even more so. Jason Statham plays the brute with refined tastes effectively, for what the character is; Aubrey Plaza, as the smart-as-a-whip electronics expert is very fun to watch; the highlight, in any case, is Hugh Grant as the main villain. The globetrotting adventures are smoothly captured in many exotic locales, by the efficient camerawork of cinematographer Alan Stewart; composer Christopher Benstead provides the well-matched musical score. Costume and production design are both fine.
