I, Daniel Blake: Ken Loach presents a touching drama in this film; however, the story is always choosing the easiest road to prove its point, being more interested in that then in coming up with a rich narrative, and that constant manipulation takes its toll, reducing the effectiveness of this work. Nevertheless, the title character is very endearing, and marvelously defended by Dave Johns, in a very low-key performance; likewise, Hayley Squires also gives a nice performance, and the kids are charming. The film has a very simple, documentary-like look (shot by Robbie Ryan), which agrees with the story being told.
