Moana: directors Ron Clements and John Musker certainly put together one of the most visual arresting animated films ever; the environment looks great, water is character in itself, the colors are lively, the texture of the tattoos incredible (and smartly used as another storytelling canvas). The story is interesting (even if a tad generic) and has inspiring moments (and themes); it does, however, get sidetracked in the repartee between the main characters and the excessive cuteness of the supporting characters. Voice acting is quite solid: Auli’i Cravalho is enchanting in the title role (and she is a strong female character, always a plus), and Dwayne Johnson makes a great winning rascal. The music is just so-so, but it does have a bit of a different flavor.
