Fifth about The Seventh

Sing (2016)

SingSing: directors Garth Jennings and Christophe Lourdelet know (or at least count on) that music is able to reach out and affect the public in a way that few other things can; they bank on that, but, as if not used to subtlety or a well-done curatorship, they use an impressive number of different songs of many styles to make sure something hits the mark for everybody. The storytelling, however, is pedestrian and shallow; the characters have few interesting or attractive traits. The animation is equally humdrum, as the character design is simplistic and the environment, generic. The voice acting is ok and, thankfully, not too manic in general; Scarlett Johansson and Seth MacFarlane are the highlights for their singing voices, while Matthew McConaughey and John C. Reilly are solid.
