Jack Reacher: Never Go Back: Edward Zwick’s film is somewhat competent as an action flick, but has a generic feel to it that is hard to overcome. Nothing here feels new or even remarkable in any way: the conspiracy plot (as well as the sub-plot, in fact), the loner hero (Tom Cruise, while a good action star, is the wrong choice to play such a stern character), the interaction with the female lead (even the efforts to have a strong female character, played in OK fashion by Cobie Smulders, is stale), the different locations. Danika Yarosh’s overmatched in her acting. Technically, the film is striking for being so commonplace as well.
