Fifth about The Seventh

The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki (Hymyilevä Mies)

The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli MäkiThe Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki: Juho Kuosmanen’s account of true events is a pleasurable, unassuming experience. The choice to frame this story in this particular way, focusing on the human side instead of the sporting story, proves to be a winning decision. The main character is lovable and engaging, and exceedingly well-played by Jarkko Lahti; Oona Airola is also a fine presence, and they have great chemistry together. The film is shot in awesome black-and-white by Jani-Petteri Passi, the camera being lively and curious at all times, making liberal use of extended takes; period reconstruction is solid.
