Cars 2: John Lasseter and Brad Lewis’ sequel is an entertaining mash-up of the original concept and a world-hopping spy film. That yields two consequences: by one hand, it opens up the universe, allowing the gorgeous world design to be greatly expanded (while the characters themselves are merely fine, all the environments are absolutely fantastic); by the other hand, the story veers away from the themes of the original work and allows for less character engagement. Voice acting is top-notch, from the main cast down to (and particularly) the supporting cast (John Turturro, Michael Caine and Emily Mortimer) and voice cameos.
