Our Kind of Traitor: Susanna White’s adaptation of John le Carré’s novel is surprisingly thrill-less and somewhat toothless; in particular, there’s no great sense of who or what most of those characters are or what makes them tick, or much thematic relevance and novelty. The cast is stuck with that flaw and most barely registers; Stellan Skarsgård (not coincidentally, he plays the character with the most sensible motivation) comes out best while Damian Lewis is a bit annoying in his prim characterization. The film has many interesting and varied locations, but the camerawork of Anthony Dod Mantle tries too hard to find an unusual framing and is generally a distraction.
