Fifth about The Seventh

Aquarius (2016)

AquariusAquarius: Kleber Mendonça Filho’s film is an interesting experience; it’s beautifully conceived (one can see there’s a thinking mind behind it), has a great collection of songs playing (always well-chosen for their respective scenes), and a starting point for the story that shows great potential (and many ways it could unfurl). Sônia Braga is powerful in her acting, building a façade that is powerful, but which also makes her character a hard, cold cypher. And therein lies the issue with the film, as this coldness makes it hard to connect and empathize (and makes the film feel overlong); the alternative (going for excessive sap) would probably make this a bad melodrama, however, so this choice may have been the lesser of two evils.
