The Jungle Book: Jon Favreau has a classic tale in his hands, told many times over, and he doesn’t mess with it; the film may not bring much new to the table, but it’s done efficiently and entertainingly. The voice cast is in excellent shape: Idris Elba oozes evil, Ben Kingsley oozes wisdom, Scarlett Johansson oozes snaky charm and Bill Murray oozes honey. Neel Sethi is appropriate (but not more than that) in the central role. The film is a great visual and technical accomplishment, considering it’s all created through computer-generated imagery, with a high degree of realism. The character’s animations are flawless, and the environment is rich and colorful.
