The Intern: Nancy Meyers’s telling of a real-world, present-day fairy tale is charming, but fluffy and somewhat condescending towards its own characters; there’s also very little conflict in the film. Anne Hathaway is fine in a thankless role, while Robert De Niro is solid in a slightly better one; the rest of the cast is appropriate. Stephen Goldblatt captures capably the nicely selected locations; it’s all very well-produced: beautiful costumes, well-decorated settings, mellow soundtrack.
