Anomalisa: while animation (and perhaps this unusual style) is the ideal way to tell this particular story (the execution in a live action film would be hard to skew away from comedy, and animation generally carries a suspension of disbelief that is welcome), Duke Johnson and Charlie Kaufman’s film ends up dragging up too much. The concept is touching, melancholic, but there is simply too little story to hold interest throughout. The voice acting is fine; Tom Noonan shows enough range to properly do all the different roles, and both David Thewlis and Jennifer Jason Leigh solidly get their characters.
