Arabian Nights – Volume 1, The Restless One: Miguel Gomes’ work is intriguing, but as most collections of short stories, it’s also uneven and unfulfilling. At times, the film seems to be meandering aimlessly; however, being this the first part of a trilogy, it’s unfair to pass that particular judgement yet. Nevertheless, the film is excessively verbose, and only occasionally interesting when doing that. Likewise, the film has some interesting moments visually and others that are likewise unengaging, but its visuals are not supposed to be its strongest suit.
